hoot, hoot

early this morning, i started for the back door to let zody out when i heard a "hoot, hoot."
then i saw him on the neighbor's roof!  i called for greg, who was still sleeping, to come see
the cool thing out back,,, then i hurried for my camera.  he saw me and flew away,
huge wings spread against the sunrise.  there has to be a sumi-e or haiku
about this soon. ;)   is this not a great way to start the day?

the tiny sketchbook

if i draw him will he come?

i made a tiny sketchbook
gonna keep it in my pocket or purse
gonna draw 5, 10, 15 minutes,,,
where-ever and of what-ever
 my little heart desires.

memorable

i don't know where to start... and i don't like to write lengthy blog posts,
but this picture is worth a thousand words and then some.
this couple is dennis and lavonne nesheim.  they were teachers
at ulm american school in neu-ulm, germany during the 70s & 80's.
mr. nesheim was my 4th grade teacher and then my junior & senior high
art teacher.  he's always been my favorite teacher of all time.
i have many wonderful memories of learning video arts, silk screen,
pottery, and painting in his classes.  mr. nesheim was kind to and patient
with his students.  he was fair, calm and encouraging.
for a teenager that was pretty important.
i finally found a phone number for dennis nesheim a little over a year ago,
and we were able to reconnect and catch up (thirty years)!
dennis and lavonne came to visit us yesterday!!! i'm so glad they were
able make a stop here in sw oklahoma on their return trip home to colorado.

we took a drive through the wildlife refuge and came across this congregation of turkeys!

i'm grateful for the time i was able to spend with these dear people,,,
reminiscing on old memories and making new ones.

oh, and i am grateful for good teachers who inspire and make a lasting impression. :)

art, nature, art,,, pause

"Little Graces," (Encaustic Collage - Diptych)
since the weather turned warmer i was able to work on some encaustic pieces.
i have to open the studio door, put a box fan in the window, place a heavy-duty
fan behind me and turn on the overhead fan for ventilation.
i love encaustic but it's high maintenance. ha!

we went on a wonderful hike in the wildlife refuge yesterday -
explored the area behind osage lake.  it was 60 degrees perfect.

Deciduous losing leaves....
this tree has the fall colors of the chinkapin but i just didn't get the
shape right.  so it's just a fall tree.

i wanted to give the trees a break for a while so that i could concentrate
on encaustic, but i got three commissions - the redbud is done,
the other two will be a pair of cherry blossoms - an anniversary gift.

sharing tea and conversation with my sis today.

i hope your weekend has been wonderful.

casting beads before swans

peach tree and peach blossom necklace
claudia sent me these beautiful beads from vienna!

i look forward to working with some of the other colors.
http://wide-eyed-tree.blogspot.com/
take a peek at claudia's wonderful landscape and artistry.

there is something calming and meditative about beading.
a little obsessive too!  ha!

i'm working on a fall chinkapin tree now
and then may give the trees a rest as i need
to finish and start some other projects.  :)

january a jewel

do you ever have nothing or everything to say at the same time?
feel excited and calm at the same time.....?
ha, what a predicament.

this year could be monumental, it seems every year is,
but this one could end up with a cherry on top.

january is flying by... but each day is a jewel...

i hope this year is starting off well for you.

"now"

"now" encaustic collage
i've enjoyed reading peoples' words, themes or plans for 2013.
i have a word  for this year...
"now"

it will help me to get things done and not procrastinate.
it's not meant to make me busy, but to keep me motivated and focused.

"i paint now."

seems that saturday are my art days
and sunday my hiking days...

my sister and i hiked in the "narrows" today.
it was a beautiful day and we warmed up really fast.
