Two Hats

"Vintage Sisters," Watercolor Monoprint
"Sailors' Wives"
"My hat is bigger than your hat, Robin."  "Yes, Sandra, but mine has cool beads!"

The other day we were preparing to sail when another 'sailing couple'
showed up and,,, Robin wore a big-brimmed white hat similar to mine!
It was too funny - we had to snap a picture.
Well, during the sail the wind blew my fancy hat right into the lake . :(
I was ready to dive in after it but Greg said to stay put
and he chased it down with the sailboat.
I had one second to snatch it back out of the water. :)
We're 'water cowboys' now.

Anyway, the photo of me and Robin made me think of a watercolor print
that I created based on two vintage dolls for sale at a flea-market.

Wildflower Update

I'm at the midway point of the wildflower portraits - a little over a hundred painted.
And I can actually catch up on a few that I'm behind on because whoaw is it
summer hot now (107!).  Flower production has slowed tremendously.:)

I love all these flowers - and I have many favorites.
Some grew abundantly.
Others were sparse.
I only found a singular bloom on a few.

I treasure the Venus Looking Glass because Greg found it on a long hike.
He carried it all the way back for me because he wasn't sure if
I had one in my collection yet. I did not.
The bloom was even in perfect shape - all 18".

Basket Flower Seeds
I've been collecting lots of seeds.
Some for planting - some for embedding into wax art.
Been playing with/studying these seeds.
They're all different and interesting.

I've also been noticing the abundant mixed prairie grasses!
This may be next year's journal project - or birds - not sure yet. :)

Nora

The other night I completed my second illustration for
Cameron University's Theatre Department.
Can you guess this character? The play?

It's Nora, from Ibsen's - A Doll's House

Have you ever read this story or seen the play performed?
I've only read it - so I look forward to the actual play next theatre season.

Ibsen wrote this story based on the actual events that happened to a dear friend.
Feeling helpless, all he could do was write.

~Sailor~

greg & i retrieved our Lil Henri from the other side of the lake very early this morning.
our boat had been stranded on the opposite bank since sunday evening's wind~storm,,,
and greg has been very 'off-kilter' these past several days.
i think boat and sailor will rest well this evening. :)

~sometimes God calms the storm, sometimes he calms the sailor.~

happy weekend dear friends.

windstorm

Great Heron on Lake Lawtonka
we decided to sail Lake Lawtonka on sunday evening.
greg had checked the weather and all looked favorable.
there were two other sailboats out amidst the other motor boats and water jets.
about 25 minutes into our sail, the wind picked up fast & furious! we were in the middle of
the lake going upwind - the waves increased as the wind increased and we
started to rock and reel. we were in trouble and couldn't turn around.
unfortunately our life jackets were below deck.
we are both strong swimmers, but i know that was bad planning. :(
the wind eventually caused our 15' potter, Lil Henri D, to flip on its side.
i thought we were going to have to jump, but greg said to hang on and
somehow we managed to get the sailboat back upright.
and greg finally had a brief few seconds to get the main sail undone.
we were rocking as if in an ocean.
hanging on, adrenaline flowing, i prayed for God to help us.
i called on the name of my Jesus.
we made it to the other side of the lake where thankfully the bank was muddy.
Lil Henri didn't get dashed by rocks.
the jib sail shred to pieces and a line was torn.
but we were safe.
the police monitoring the lake came and 'rescued' us.
they told us the wind gust were at 40 mph!!
greg had to tie Lil Henri to an old tree trunk sticking out of the water.
and we still haven't been able to go back and get 'him.'
it's still too windy.

wee upholstery project

before
after

i couldn't resist - i found these vintage chairs in an antique store...
and i did a wee cushion update. :)

i'm giving one of the chairs to a friend,
but i'd like to give the small settee away
to a blogger friend.

if you think you might need a mini lounge settee
drop a wee note. :)

~i hope you're having a good weekend.~

Medicine Creek

 here's where we swam tonight ~ ~ ~
i even sat under the falls and got a massage compliments of nature.
 i needed it - i'm feeling a little stressed.
monday madness at work and i'm just busy in general.
things will balance again.

and along the banks of our medicine creek i find 'pitcher's clematis.'
i adore this wildflower!

hope you have a good week! :)

purple~seeds~rain~rock

i think it pissed God off if you walk by the color purple in a field
somewhere and don't notice it...
people think pleasing God is all God care about.
but any fool living in the world can see it always trying
to please us back. - alice walker

i've been collecting indian blanket seeds.
they are so abundant!

their season is over. purple basket flowers have taken over the fields now.

the grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

fourth day of rain!  how wonderful.
we took a long walk this evening and i blessed myself with
rain water that collected in 'altar rock.'

a beautiful weekend should be around the corner,,,
